Hey Oscar, what about us

Let me start off by saying that I love what the Oscars represent to the film making academy, to cinema and to the actors and directors themselves. I will however say the Oscars aren't perfect and while I won't point all but one of those imperfections, there is one however that I strongly feel that I must touch on, and for me that is the lack of appreciation for great and very entertaining action movies. I get it, action movies may not have the most depth in telling a story nor does it provide vital educational tidbits to expand the knowledge of the human mind, and may often times have a thinly layered plot, but as an artform that is part of the lucrative movie institution it plays a major role in the amount of income brought in each year by the American public at large.
Adding on to this is the fact that it is probably the most popular of the movie genres in cinema today, and with a year that features such great action movies such as Kingmen the secret service, Avengers Age of Ultron, and the recently released Mad Mad fury road, it begs the question why isn't there more love for this particular and popular movie genre. I understanding spreading out the attention that movies get to other genres and acknowledging each great movie from  particular one but why isn't there more love for this particular movie art form. As a result of their sometimes lack of appreciation from the movie academy great movies that should have more attention and even win the coveted best picture award have repeatedly been passed over for more worthy movies deemed more fitting for the reward, and while I can understand why at times it doesn't mean that I fully always agree with it. Movies like The Dark Knight rises and Jdanjo unchained while very deserving of best picture almost always get passed over yet have a lasting legacy in cinematic lure.
I feel this is mainly due to an Oscar theme where independent movies seem to have all the fortune and acclaim and seem to always rule the day, The problem being many movies being nominated for awards are ones that the general audience at large has not yet seen. I do think it's wonderful that the Oscars appreciate the wonderful work of independent movies because they do deserve great recognition for their great work, I still feel however it is a slight to those other genres that bring many to the theaters on a more formal basis and have helped make to cinematic world what it is today. It doesn't feel all that fair to have the highest grossing movie of the year in guardians of the galaxy get completely overshadowed in regards to receiving the proper awards that it deserved, especially considering the amount of acclaim that it garnered from both fans and movie critics alike. With great visuals and a fantastic score to go along with it, an action packed thrill ride like this will often get overlooked for a more understated film with three times less the viewership. Given the simple fact that I love action movies it would be great to see this enjoyable and sometimes terrifically engaging genres get their just due as well, not only the action genres but others as well such as horror and comedy genres. Movies serve many purposes and are viewed and found to be enjoyable for many different reasons it would just be nice if the academy realized that too, instead of being a little too narrow in their focus of what make a great and engaging film.
