Men's Men's Basketball team can definately count on D'Amours

Hi guys it's me Lhens again and today for my last blog post of the semester I will be talking about a sophomore athlete that is taking the men's basketball team by storm.

The person I'm speaking of is Keene State Sophmore Derek D'Amours. D'Amours is having a fantastic season with the team. He is averaging 20.3 points per game for the owls and has been an offensive force for the team. He is also one of the best rebounders on the team averaging 5.3 per game. For people who are suprised that he is playing this well should not be, as a rookie he was named to the all rookie team.

As a rookie he had two games in which he scored 19 points and knocked down 5 three pointers and another game in which he had a career high 21 points, all while finshing the season with a total of 48 three point field goals made.

This season D'Amours has picked up right where he left off last season and I believe will be a big reason for the Owls success this season. The Future for D'Amours looks great and if his great play continues I see him being an All American and leading the Owls to the playoffs.

Benning and Dallas will be remembered for their contributions to the KSC field Hockey Team

Hi everyone it's me Lhens again and on this blog post I wanted to discuss the departure and careers of two great field hockey players, Carley Benning and Erin Dallas. They both played a big role in the team's success this season and because of their great play they received All American honors. They both have had very productive careers, Benning led the little east conference in points with 58 points and was great in the closing moments of a game. She had a great clutch abilty to make the game winning goal for the Owls and helped put the team ahead in 14 of their 18 victories.

While her career is over here at Keene State College she will always be rememebered for her great offensive ability she is the seventh Owl player to reach the coveted 100 point milestone mark and is one of the best goal scorers the KSC women's field hockey team has ever had.

Erin meanwhile has developed a terrific field hockey career as well, She is a three time All American and she is the only player to receive both the offensive and defensive player of the year award in Little east history.

Erin ealier in her career was a great midfielder and could certainly put the ball in the net as well but had to adjust her game when she sustained a post surgical infection in her leg. Even with that obsticle standing in her way she persevered and worked hard to become a great defensive player, which shows the amount of determination and courage she has.

She also helped the team post 12 shutouts and she also was a great passer this season, she totaled 10 assists this season (second most on the team) and in doing so became the all-time assists leader. Both players certainly left their mark with the team and will be remembered for everything they provided to the Owls.

Women's basketball team off to a fast start

Hi everybody it's me Lhens again, I hope all of you enjoyed your Thanksgiving break. Today I wanted to talk to you guys about how well the women's basketball team is doing this season. The Owls have gotten off to a great start this season with a 4-0 record. They are playing well on Both defense and on offense and winning many of their games handily. Only one game out of the four that they have won so far has been in single digits. They are getting great contribution from different players each night which helps make them very tough to beat. The younger player are playing solid basketball for the Owls which is something that can give them confidence as the season progresses. The seniors are playing solid as well and providing good leadership through their play. The Owls are doing everything right thus far, they are winning easily, they are playing well as a unit, and they are protecting their home court. If they continue to display great teamwork and effort on a nightly basis then their chances of being ranked the number one team in the Little East Conference are very high.

Outlook for men's soccer team in 2010

Hey Everybody it's me Lhens again and today Iwanted to talk to you guys about how good I think the men's soccer team will be next year. I think that the future for the men's soccer team is very bright, they have two young freshmen stars who have played incredibly well this season and have been a contributing factor and a driving force in the team's success. The Owls get after the ball they play agressively, and they get have good solid goaltending that will help keep them in games. Another thing the Owls have going for them is an accomplished coach who can motivate the team when they need to be motivated, and have them ready and prepared to go out and give it their best effort. With all of those pieces in place I see the Owls having a very successful season next year. Many of their losses this year were close games that the owls had chances to win. If they get the ball to bounce their way they might have had a better record overall to end the season. If the young players continue to grow and develop and they continue to get solid play from the other players, then I see no reason why this team can't win 16 to 17 games next year and hoist up an LEC Championship.

Women's soccer team on the verge of becoming champions

Hello Everybody it's me Lhens, and once again I will be giving my oppinions on the sports scence here at Keene State College. This week I will be talking about the Women's field hockey team and thier chances of winning the LEC Conference Championship.
I think they will win the LEC Championship on Saturday, they are the top seed, and they have done very well against Umass Darthmouth in past LEC play and recently beat them 3-2 this season. In thier last 12 games the owls have only lost once and they are going into the game against Darthmouth on an 8 game winning streak. They are on an absolute tear and their confidence is sky high right now. If Carley Benning continues her magnificent play and gets the defense to back her up then I don't see the Owls losing at all. In the two playoffs games that they've had, the games were not close, they beat Salem St. 5-1 and they beat framingham St. 3-0. Even though Darthmouth has a great team, a great offense and they will probably give the Owls everything they can handle,at the end of the day I don't see them them ending the Owls incredible roll. The Owls are looking to capture their sixth consecutive LEC crown and I don't believe nothing will get in their way of accomplishing that goal. I predict a close defensive battle between two great teams, with the owls winning in the end 2-1.

KSC Women's field hockey team is on a roll

Hi everyone it's me Lhens again and for this sports topic I wanted to talk to you guys about a team who is really clicking on all cylenders right now, and that would be the women's field hockey team. They have realed off three straight wins and are probably the best team on campus. They are playing well as a unit and they are winning games all while a couple of the their players are reaching milestones in their playing careers here at Keene State College. In the last three games not only have they won but Erin Dallas has set the all time record for assists, and Carley Benning has reached the 100 point milestone becoming only the seventh player to do so in women's field hockey here at KSC. Their last victory came against a very good falcons team that entered the game against the Owls with an 11-3 record, and a team that had won six straight games before playing the Owls. Carley helped the team by scoring her 18 goal continuing her fantastic season and Vikki protected the net by stopping eight shots. Right now the women's field hockey team are not only a great team but a confident one at that, and I believe it will be hard for anyone to break their momentum. Coming up the Owls will host New England College and I expect their run of success to continue.

Let the madness for the KSC Basketball season begin

Hello Everybody it's me Lhens Juste and today I will be giving my thoughts on Midnight Madness. Midnight Madness will be taking place in the Spaulding gym on Friday October 23rd. It sure to be an exiting event here at Keene State College, everybody is excited to go see it and so am I.
Other than Pumkin Fest there is no other event that sturs up as much talk and anticipation as midnight madness does and rightfully so. It has a long running tradition and students have the chance of winning all sots of different prizes that they can go home with. No other event at Keene State is quite like it.
On top of the prizes, if that doesn't excite people to come to the event, students will get the opportunity to watch the men and women's basketball teams perform in both a shooting contest and a slam dunk contest.
The event is so exciting that it makes students who would normally go home for the weekend stay an extra day just to see the festivities take place. I for one think that midnight madness will be a fantastic event to go watch, and I predict that a good time will be had by all the students who decide to attend.

Soccer team surging despite loss

Hello everybody it's me Lhens again and today I am going to talk to you guys about a sports topic that has been on my mind as of late. The topic I'm refering to is the great play of the men's soccer team They are clicking on all cylinders and proving to be a really tough team to beat. After losing to Babson in a dissapointing loss they reeled off two straight wins all while winning five out of their last six games. The goalie Peter Kersker has played very well and they've gotten great play out of their two young freshmen stars Shawn Shand and Joe Senecal. They are playing well as a unit and they are showing how good of a team they can be.
I know they lost yesterday's game to Umass Darthmouth but they stayed in the game against a very good team and that is something they can build on for the next game. Even with the loss I like the direction this team is headed in. If they can play to their strength and play hard, teams will have a tough go against them every time out. I feel that is the next game they will come out playnig harder and it will ultimately lead them to a victory.

The Miraculous Story of Erin Dallas

Hi everyone it's me Lhens again this week I wanted to talk about an incredible story that is taking place here at Keene State College. The Story I'm reffering to is the story of Erin Dallas. for some people this story in not new but for those of you who have not heard her story yet, it will both amaze and astound you. Erin is a field hockey player here at Keene State who came back from a post surgical infection that could have ended her field hockey days for good. After being being away from the game she loved and having people dought whether she would come back she persevered and is now excelling at the sport she loves to play. Her story is inspring and something you would only see in movies. One thing is for sure whether she plays well or not she already won. If anyone wants to hear more about her story I will be talking it in the Keene Online News I would advise anybody who hasn't heard of her incredible story to go read it.

Oppinions varying among students about the H1N1 Virus

With the swine flu taking its toll on people across the country it begs the question are Keene State College students worried about this potential virus?
The answer to that question is a mixed bag, while there are some students who worry about the potential spread of the H1N1 virus there are many students who feel as though there is nothing to worry about.
Even though there is a 50% chance that the American population may be affected by the virus many Keene State College students don’t feel as if they have anything to worry about.
Two Keene State Students who feel this is something they should not be concerned with are Keene State Students Brian Ugalde and Mike Mobley. Both say they are not worried at all about the virus. When asked if they saw themselves or their friends and family potentially attaining the H1N1 they said, “No, were not worried at all. They also stated, “The disease doesn’t make us want to wash our hands more or use hand sanitize, it also doesn’t make us want to do anything else that could prevent getting the virus.” They did however say that if anyone close to them got the disease they would start to worry about it.
Another student I spoke to was SophmoreDaniele Couture she is more concerned about the potential harm the virus could do. When asked if she was worried about the virus she replied yes. She also stated, “I wash my hands everywhere I go because of the potential threat of the virus, and I try to keep my hands away from my mouth at all times.
When asked if she saw herself or her family and friends attaining the virus she replied by saying, “I hope not but it’s a possibility, I am going to try to prevent it at all times.
Keene State College recently has had 12 new cases of students coming down with flu like symptoms which may cause more concern about the virus. This news however does not phase Senior Allison Destefano, when asked if 12 new students coming down with flu like symptoms worried her she stated, “Maybe a little bit it makes me extra aware of things I can do to avoid it and I’m a healthy person so I’m confident.”
The swine flu is something which originates from pigs. It starts off in their bodies and it then starts to spread when the virus mutates (changes) and becomes infectious to other people. The virus becomes highly attainable to people who have little or no immunities to fight against it.
The symptoms for this disease can be anything from vomiting, muscle aches, diarrhea, coughing, headaches etc. The H1N1 virus can be attained very easily, that is why if you wash your hands, use hand sanitizer and cover your mouth with your elbow when you cough or sneeze the likelihood of the virus spreading becomes minimal and the likelihood of you getting the virus becomes very slim.
To prevent this deadly virus from beginning there are a many things people can do other than just washing your hands or using hand sanitizer. People can get treatment from the doctor, who can then provide them with the right antiviral drug. People can also minimize their chances of potentially receiving the virus by getting flu shots, that way people can remain healthy from the flu and wouldn’t have to worry about spreading the virus it they do become sick. Testing for the virus is something that you should do if you suspect that you may have it. This can help ensure that you’re a hundred percent healthy and let you be aware of what steps you need to take if you do have it.
No matter how anybody feels about the virus it is still out there and people should take the right precautionary measures not to get it.

Soccer Clash

Hi everyone my name is Lhens Juste I just wanted to notify you that I will be covering sports this entire semester. I will be taking about all sports here at Keene State College and giving my oppinions on what I think of the games and the athletes. I look foward to getting my thoughts out there for you to read and for you and me to get to interact with one another and exchange comments. One game that I really want to talk about is the game between the Keene State Owls and Plymouth State University. These two teams are rivals and it should make for a good game on Saturday. Plymouth State is a perfect 4-0 to begin the season meanwhile the owls are 2-3 going into the game. This would be a big win the mens soccer team to maybe help get their season turned around. The game should be physical and it should be fun, I hope everyone goes to it, because it should be a good one.
